It's easier than you think...
I was in your exact same position, not so long ago. I had heard about meditating and how “amazing” it supposedly was and made you feel… but I didn’t have the patience to sit down and actually try it. The closest thing I had ever done to meditating was pretending to do it at the end of a yoga class, and I’ve gone to barely 5 classes throughout my life, but really all I was doing was mentally listing all the other things I had to get done, that BS of putting your mind in blank for me was like impossible. Can you relate?
But the more I read up on health and personal growth and how to achieve that mental clarity we all want, the more I wanted to master the idea of meditation.
So I tried a lot of things, doing it myself, youtube videos, podcasts and apps. So here are my top tips for beginner meditators like me:
First and trust me this is going to help you a lot in getting your meditating groove on and that is, two words: Guided. Meditation. Finding the right guided meditation that brings you into the flow is such a game changer for rookies like me . Distraction is the toughest part about meditating and it can get seriously frustrating. The guidance from another voice can help you get deep into that soulful part of yourself. That clear, calm, collected part of yourself that I like to call your Superwoman. The more you meditate, the more your Superwoman emerges out in your everyday life. And she’s pretty epic.
Guided meditation is my #1 favorite way to meditate. There are so many apps and YouTube videos where you can find these meditations. My personal favorite has always been the Headspace app, in really recommend this app. We all need a lil guidance sometimes, right?
-My next top tip is to do it in the morning, as soon you wake up, even before brushing your teeth. But hey! Maybe you’re super organized and you have a set daily schedule where you won’t miss anything… (and if you are I’m jealous af) But I tend to forget things often. Some days gets crazy and what better way to start your day felling clear headed ready to kick ass during your day.
-My final tip for you is to simply start. Easier said than done, right? With everything in life starting is the hardest part. You deserve to put yourself first and take ten minutes (Yes, only ten minutes and you will feel amazing) out of your day for your mental health. You’ll become a happier and more driven person with meditation, trust me!
